Getting to know: Alex Bull

Meet Alex our newest Project Coordinator

Alex Bull is our new Junior Project Coordinator at Zeroseven. I sat down with him to find out what makes him tick.

Hi Alex!

What’s your role at Zeroseven?

As a Junior Project Coordinator, I manage client projects and work with our developers to coordinate their workloads. There’s a lot of direct contact with the clients, which I really enjoy.

What skills do you bring to the table?

My last role was as a business analyst, which was more of a technical role. I worked with a team of developers to build software to meet certain requirements, so it was all about understanding those requirements and coming up with a solution.

Communication is definitely a skill I’ve developed – I know how important it is for everyone to be on the same page, and to know what’s happening at every stage of a project.

Leadership’s another quality I’ve developed. In my last role, I was a graduate, and I took on the responsibility of managing the other graduates that came aboard during my time there. That involved running fortnightly meetings to catch up with them and see how they were doing, and making sure they had everything they needed to excel in their roles.

What made you choose Zeroseven?

Pablo’s here! But what really made me choose Zeroseven is that they’re really big on culture. They do a lot of events with their employees, which is important to me.

I’ve come from a bigger organisation with around 5,000 employees to this one, which has around 20 employees. For me, it’s about not just being another number on a piece of paper, and knowing that your thoughts are valued and you are valued as a person. That’s the main reason why I chose Zeroseven.

What’s your party trick?

I don’t know if this counts, but I’m pretty good at beer pong. That’s the best party trick I’ve got.

Actually, an interesting thing about me is that I’m an identical twin. My brother Sam and I look exactly alike.

Have you ever switched places?

Yes! Yeah, we did that in high school. Our friends could tell straight away, but it took about a week for other people to start picking up on it. But I couldn’t stand being called ‘Sam’ for any longer than a week, anyway.

Is Sam in a similar field to you?

Yeah. We both did a Bachelor of Business at QUT, and we’re both interested in IT.

Do you have a nickname?

A lot of people call me Al. My full name is Alexander.

So, technically, Alex is a nickname.

… Yeah, I guess.

Do you have a pet?

Yes, I’ve got a pet cat called Luna.

Hmm. Would you say you’re a dog person or a cat person?

A bit of both, actually. Growing up, I had dogs and cats. I like all animals.

If you could become any animal, what would it be?

A wolf. I think I’d enjoy the team dynamic in the pack; I’d get amongst it.

What do you do for fun?

I’m an NRL fan. I would say I’m a Brisbane Broncos supporter, but I don’t think I can be after this season. I’m into fitness. I go to the gym four or five times a week, and last year I did Tough Mudder with a group of mates, which was really fun.

I recently went up to Double Island with a bunch of mates; we went fishing and camping and 4WDing on the beach, so that was a fantastic time.

I love to travel. I went to Fiji for the third time last year; I went with my girlfriend and her family and we had a blast. One of my favourite places to visit was Iceland – it’s so atmospheric, and we went to the Blue Lagoon, which was incredible. It was 40°C in the Lagoon and -5°C outside of it, so that was a bit of a shock, especially in board shorts!

If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

It’d have to be Bora Bora. It’s always been on my bucket list.

Are you a deft hand in the kitchen? Do you have a signature dish?

I do a pretty mean brekkie – bacon and eggs on toast with avocado. My girlfriend always raves that I cook the best eggs. So I’d say I’m a pretty good cook when breakfast comes around, but after that my girlfriend takes over.

What’s your favourite movie?

‘That Awkward Moment’, starring Zac Efron. It’s relatable. I’ve seen it five or six times and I laugh every time I watch it.

Do you like scary movies?

No, I’m petrified of them. I was watching ‘It’ with my girlfriend a few months ago and I had a pillow in front of my face the whole time. I’m a wuss.

Favourite TV show?

Pablo, do you know how many good shows there are on Netflix? ‘Rick and Morty’ is pretty good. ‘Outer Banks’ is another favourite.

Favourite musician?

Kenny Chesney. I love my country music – I went to CMC Rocks last year and had a bloody good time. I’m listening to a lot of Keith Urban at the moment, because he just put out a new album.

iPhone or Android?

Would you rather be too hot or too cold?

Too cold. It’s easier to just throw a jumper on than it is to sweat all day.

Sunrise or sunset?

Marvel or DC?

Marvel. DC’s terrible.

PlayStation or XBox?

Beer or wine?

Beer. That was an easy one, Pablo, c’mon.

If you could go to Mars but you could never come back, would you go?

I’ve thought about this a lot, actually. It’d be hard to leave everything behind. I don’t think I could do it. All my friends are here!

What’s the last book you read?

‘The Honey Badger Guide to Life’ by Nick Cummins.

Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Oh, that’s an easy one – it’d have to be Chris Hemsworth.

Thank you for your time Alex, its been great getting you know you.
