Brisbane Kentico meet-up kicked off

By Chris 5-10 minute read

Last Thursday saw the resurgence of the Brisbane Kentico Meetup with the group getting together to learn about all things Kentico. Hosted at the Zeroseven offices, everyone was treated to several metres of pizza (that is the measurement for ordering it..), drinks and a chance to network with surprisingly little talk of Game of Thrones.

The meetup was organised by Kentico and it was great to be joined by Stuart and Wayne from HQ along with their colleague Josef Dvorak a Kentico solution architect on hand as the authority for any tricky technical questions.

This time, the talks focused more on the technical side of things, with the first talk coming from Zeroseven’s own search expert Kat. Her talk, “BE BOLD! Customising your search to best suit you”, demonstrated how to improve the out of the box Kentico search for your users, with details on how to enhance search indexing (the data stored to be searched), how to make the search results more relevant to the keywords provided, how to apply custom filters as well as how to make the results look great.

Second up was Craig, also from Zeroseven, giving us an insight on the opportunities now available for site optimisation when building Kentico 12 MVC projects. In particular he discussed best practice website speed optimisation techniques and how to utilise the Kentico caching to great affect – proving the results in the Google Page speed ratings. As he says – if it’s a good experience for the user then it’s also a big benefit for S.E.O.

Last up was Josef, walking us through how to create custom content editors in Kentico Cloud, opening the door to integrating Kentico Cloud with any online SaaS platform or custom business system. This provides developers the opportunity to make an integrated editing experience, simple for the editor and maintaining data integrity.

Although interesting, we made sure the talks were snappy and after another drink and a bit more conversation, the evening was over leaving Pablo the office dog to complete his favourite task of clearing up any leftover pizza.

Watch this space for the next Brisbane Kentico meetup in around three months’ time which will be focused more on editors and business users.
