First Five Years website

The Plan

The website First Five Years was the brain-child of Goodstart Early Learning. They were looking for a platform where they could provide parents with advice on the development of their child in a safe space with trusted information.

The first five years of a child’s life represent an extraordinary “moment” of parenting. These years are fleeting, challenging, life-changing and profoundly important to a child’s development. And they pass so quickly that they can seem like just a moment.

The First Five Years website was designed to be:
●    Content-rich
●    Provide trusted advice, support and tools
●    Encouraging parents to extend early learning into the home.

The Process

The First Five Years project began with research to ensure there was a firm understanding of the audiences and content pillars required to meet their needs. Ensuring an optimal user experience was a key focus for the project and significant testing of the information architecture and design of the website was undertaken. Convenient navigation and intuitive search were vital to the success of the project.

Zeroseven was tasked with making sure the delivery of the long-form content was quick, with a strong focus on mobile devices where 90% of the audience viewed the content.

Getting users to the high-quality content on the site is challenging when there are a large number of websites catering for new parents, so the site had to be built to be competitive on search engines. In addition to the usual search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques, we also built CMS driven Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). These AMP pages provide content that is used directly in the Google search results on mobile.

The site contained an extensive range of articles from professionals, experts and academics which were input through a collaborative effort between Zeroseven and Goodstart Early Learning. To complement the content commissioned by Goodstart Early Learning, a simple dedicated portal was created for communication with the experts. The portal allows First Five Years’ panel of childhood subject experts to assign and answer specific questions directly from users, creating a connection between the parents and First Five Years. Parents could ask about the issues that currently affect them.

We delivered the project within 6 months to one very happy client, and First Five Years has continued to be a successful website.

The Results

●    Over 100k visitors since launch
●    Bounce rate below 15%
●    Average time on page is over 15 minutes
●    Growing a community of loyal readers. Over 25% of monthly visitors are returning visitors.

“Being shortlisted for the Kentico Site of the Year is wonderful recognition of Goodstart Early Learning’s commitment to social purpose, that led to the creation of firstfiveyears.org.au. The intention of the site is purely to put highly credible information about parenting and the importance of early learning in the hands of parents. The site has been a success thanks to an excellent partnership with the skilled team at Zeroseven.”
- Belinda Reilly, Digital Managing Editor at Goodstart Early Learning

About the Awards

Kentico’s Site of the Year awards look for the best Kentico implementations and selects the top three from each category. Three finalists of each category are then voted on by the public, and the winners are determined by the number of votes. Then the overall most-voted site wins the People’s Choice Award.
We caught up with Wayne Jasek, Director APAC at Kentico Software to find out more about the awards.

Why does Kentico run these awards?

Wayne: Our motive is simple - every year, we want to recognise the very best projects done with Kentico platforms. The use of our products spans across 100+ countries and we see so many fantastic implementations that deserve the attention of the general public. These awards enable just that.

Why is it important for Kentico to recognise these websites?

Wayne: We love to showcase implementations that push the boundaries of creativity and sophistication. Large scale, challenging projects, mission-critical sites or innovative digital experiences. We selected several categories that Kentico clients and partners can nominate their projects for. Our committee then cherry picks the very best into a shortlist and final winners are voted by the public. Being a finalist is an accolade on its own. Winning a category is the ultimate success metric for any Kentico project and carries a lot of weight in the industry!
