Overview

Griffith University is a truly global institution having welcomed over 100,000 students originating from more than 120 countries. As an integral part of their ‘Welcome to our world’ campaign, an interactive 3D earth was a key component to sharing stories of the positive contribution Griffith’s students, staff and alumni have on a global scale.

 

Solution

Working with Clemenger Harvie Edge Brisbane and Griffith University, a 3-dimensional globe was created featuring text and video stories from students, staff and alumni around the globe.

The user can interact with the globe by spinning it around and selecting stories from many countries. Several dynamic animations are used to ensure the experience is seamless and aesthetically impressive.

The interface was developed using Adobe Flex, Flash and streaming Flash video, pulling the data from a custom content management system allowing Griffith University staff to maintain the content. The CMS also includes statistics on site usage including user sessions and story views.

A html based version using the same content managed content is available to aid user accessibility to the content and also ensures the content can be indexed by search engines, to drive additional traffic to the site.

 

Results

The 3D interactive globe provides the user with an interesting way to access the stories of Griffith’s students, staff and alumni around the world. With integrated content management, the globe can continue to be a valuable component of Griffith’s ‘Welcome to our world’ campaign.
