Overview

Girl Talk is a BBC magazine aimed at 10 year old girls which needed a new design to make it fun and appropriate to the target market.

Solution

The resulting website design was one which followed the style of the printed magazine and featured girly colours, stick on icons, cute pictures as well as different page treatments which kept the look and feel fun and exciting from page to page. There was also movement in the use of a flash navigation, however in line with BBC’s accessibility guidelines, the site otherwise used no flash in the content areas so every page had to be unique to keep the attention of the target audience.

As part of a two stage approach, the website was then expanded into the Girl Talk Club section which featured a login area and features such as screensavers, wallpapers, e-cards and other goodies.

Finally, we integrated into the BBC’s Content Management so that all the content could be controlled by site administrators.

Results

A fun and funky site, very suitable for its target audience and had a notable increase in online memberships and subsctiptions.
