Overview
Extreme Weather Heroes is a Green Cross Australia initiative focused on highlighting the effects of climate change, the growing risk of extreme weather and the need to get young people into emergency volunteering.
Solution
The main focus of the site was to involve Gen Y users through multiple forms of social media, networking and interaction, providing a website design that was visually feature packed and exciting.
After careful research, we came up with a grungy/torn paper style for the overall look and feel. The site was built in HTML/CSS and flash was integrated to showcase stories on the homepage as well as to present the fact of climate change on the ‘Science of Extreme Weather’ page.
The Heroes keep the site regularly updated with their own blogs and feeds from Twitter, Flickr and YouTube and the site integrates extensively with all forms of social media.
The site is fully content managed using the Umbraco CMS which makes it easy for the Heroes to post content and for administrator to keep the site fresh.
Results
After going live the site was featured extensively in a number of online showcases as an example of great design and build.
