The Harden Up: Protecting Queensland website was developed to
help users understand the history of severe
weather in their suburbs and to help them prepare for climate
disasters involving cyclone, bushfire, flood, severe storm and
storm surge.
THE BRIEF
Zeroseven worked with Green Cross Australia to develop the
Harden Up: Protecting Queensland project website to present
extensive weather and disaster data from the last 150 years,
sourced from state archives, BOM, CSIRO and other independent
weather climate experts.
THE SOLUTION
The Harden Up: Protecting Queensland project is an important
project for the community to ensure people are aware and prepared
for severe weather over the storm season.
The site encourages users to actively engage in the Harden Up
project by inviting them to create a plan using the 'Make a Plan
feature' and to share their plan and resilience tips in preparing
for natural disasters. This feature also integrates with Facebook
so users can share their plans online and encourage others to
engage and get prepared.
An important feature is the disaster timeline, which draws data
from state archive databases, showing the history of weather events
for the last 150 years.
THE FEATURES
- Extensive interactive graphs from climate data
- Disaster maps
- Interactive disaster awareness plan
- Facebook integration for making a disaster plan
- Social media integration
THE RESULTS
As a result of this project, over 10,000 actions have been taken
to become aware of extreme weather events in the region and the
project is of extreme importance for the whole of Queensland.
