Are you a binge marketer?

You know what I mean; no marketing activity for a while and then when things are quiet you panic and try some "get clients quick" campaign. Some work comes in and things get busy enough, so you stop marketing until things go quiet again.

We can all have a chuckle at the concept of binge marketing but it's a real problem for many businesses. You might be an adrenaline junkie and love the rush of binge marketing but consistent, proactive marketing is clearly better for the long term health of your business.

I recently had a conversation with a business owner who mentioned that he had previously "tried to work out that target market, unique message, strategy stuff" but he never did anything with it. Interestingly, he also mentioned that the last 6 months had been extremely quiet and difficult.

If things are a little quiet for you then, yes, you should be actively marketing but the key is to not stop when things pick up a bit. Start with getting your strategic plan together and then get into the habit of daily and weekly marketing activities such as contacting a new prospect every day, touching base with a client every day, getting feedback from your clients, updating your website regularly. Get your marketing engine running and then keep it going.
